Hi,

My name is Guy Jones and I am a Lewis B Trust funded athlete for the 2021 season. This season I will be writing a monthly blog update on how I am spending my time and how my year on the bike pans out. For 2021 I am riding for EuroCyclingTrips – CMI Pro Cycling Team as a development rider. CMI are a UCI continental level team registered in Guam but mostly based in France.

Winter training so far has gone well, through the uncertainty that this Pandemic has caused, I along side my coach (Holmes cycling ) have managed to stay motivated and focused on being in the best shape possible when racing hopefully returns this year. In 2021 I hope to race the UK national series as well as French national level races, while being given the opportunity to ride a select few UCI races with CMI’s first team.

If you would like to follow my journey more closely you can follow me on Instagram – guyjones_cycling_official – but for now thank you for reading, stay safe and I look forward to writing for you again in a month.

A massive thanks to the Lewis B fund for their support this season. I am sure it will be invaluable as the season gets underway.

May

577 days. That’s how many days went past between my last race before Covid hit and my season opener for 2021. A Tuesday night crit at my local circuit in Bath was the venue however not all went to plan.

In the lead up to the race, training had been going well and the steady upwards curve of fitness and form was taking shape nicely. I was confident going into the race. The race stared dry however it soon started to rain and each lap the track was getting more and more slippery. Unfortunately about half way through, I went into one of the corners with a bit too much speed for the amount of grip the track had and I hit the deck. Thankfully nothing is broken but I have some muscular pain/damage around my hip area.

With help from the Lewis B fund I am lucky enough to have a great support team around me and so working with my physio, I am already on the path to getting back to fitness. I will completing short rides on the turbo as well as some rehab exercises in the gym. I am hoping it won’t be long before I am back training to full capacity. This obviously is not the start I wanted but it will be a long season so there is plenty of races to come.

April

I hope this is the last time I have to write a blog without talking about racing. Unfortunately due to the high level of interest the test road race I had planned to ride was oversubscribed and I did not get a ride. This was obviously sad news but it didn’t affect my motivation or work ethic when it came to training. Another solid month of training in the bag with a lot of sweetspot and tempo work . The good weather the UK has been having has been such a nice relief from all the winter miles and it has given me a good amount of moral with being able to ride in summer kit for the first time this year. This month the money the fund provide has allowed me to keep regular physio appointments to make sure my body is as fit and healthy as it can be while preparing for the season.

Once again I can’t thank the trust enough and fingers crossed the next blog can be about racing!

March

It feels only yesterday I sat down to write my blog for February, apart from now it is the end of March. Another month of training done and another month closer to the return of racing. Overall there is not a lot to write home about this month. Training has gone well with consist weekly hours between 15-18 and good progress made during some repeated sessions. Thanks to the Lewis B funds my bike has also had a full service to keep it running smoothly. Looking ahead I am hoping April might be the month I have my first race of the season so look out for my next blog!

Again I’d like to say a massive thanks to Holmes cycling for training plan and The Lewis B trust for supporting me this season.
